REACT’ s activities follow two main strands: The provision of text books to refugees and The promotion of education and learning through School Links with refugee students and teachers
The provision of Text Books for refugees from their original countries.
REACT aims to support refugee children’s right to education by providing refugee school children with books which are culturally specific and from their home countries wherever possible. REACT aims to ensure that girls and as well as boys own books.
REACT aims to ensure that children have access to texts approved by their country of origin as part of the national school curriculum of approved texts for examination, so that children can hope to access economic, social and cultural development in their country of origin should they return. This entails accessing books published by the State Ministry of Education of the refugees’ country of origin.

The Darfuri Refugee Books Project
In its Books Project, REACT has obtained much needed textbooks for Darfuri refugee children so, even though they are in makeshift desert camps, they can continue to keep apace with their school curriculum from which they have become excluded. In partnership with the UNHCR, WFP and the British Council, REACT purchased and delivered its first 1200 text books in October 2007 to the Am Nabak refugee camp near Iriba, Eastern Chad.

REACT Upcoming Activities
REACT works in response to direct needs of those on the ground. In 2008, REACT intends to return to the Darfur/Chad Border, where it has a three years strong relationship with tribal leaders and communities, to replicate its successful textbooks project and to conduct a needs assessment in coordination with beneficiaries and other actors on the ground. REACT aims to develop small but targeted programmes that reach out to more beneficiaries and target specific attainable needs. In addition to the books project,REACT’s long term plans include an education programme that encompasses teachers training to support much needed skills and capacity, and the provision of training of traditional birth attendants in midwifery and basic hygiene to promote safe mother and child healthcare. This proposal has come from a close consultation with the refugees and their representatives, identifying their specific needs and realistic UK- global partnerships that can deliver these needs.
